As summer approaches and the weather turns hot, there is a growing number of cases of water dripping from air-conditioners resulting from the increase in frequency of use of air-conditioners. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urges members of the public to check the air-conditioners before using them. If any issue is found, professional air-conditioner technicians should be invited to conduct on-site inspection so as to avoid affecting others and environmental hygiene.
Not only does the issue of water dripping from air-conditioners disturb others, but it may also give rise to mosquito infestation and moss growth, damaging public environmental hygiene. There are many causes for water dripping from air-conditioners, such as improper connection, detachment or burst of drainage pipes and natural ageing of components. If the mentioned situations are found, residents should ask professional air-conditioner technicians to conduct on-site inspection and repairs. In accordance with the stipulations of “General Regulations Governing Public Places”, water dripping from air-conditioners is punishable by a fine of 600 patacas.
IAM continues to strengthen promotion to the community. Up to April this year, a total of about 100 notification letters of improvement to water dripping from air-conditioners have been issued. Promotional posters have been distributed to four large housing estates and about 4,575 official letters for circulation have been issued for promotion and education. Furthermore, promotional posters have been distributed to local buildings through the Property Management Business Association Macao to strengthen promotion and raise residents’ awareness of prevention of water dripping from air-conditioners.
IAM will step up relevant inspection and law enforcement work. It is hoped that with the cooperation and support of all residents in Macao, the environmental hygiene of the local community can be safeguarded to jointly establish a harmonious and clean living environment.
