The Handover Gifts Museum of Macao was completed in October 2004, and was opened officially in December in the same year. It is a 3-storey building. On the ground floor, there are an entrance, a lobby and administrative offices of the Museum. The first floor features the handover gift exhibition gallery and the special exhibition gallery, while the lecture hall is on the second floor. The Museum was originally situated at the venue where the Chinese government and the Portuguese government conducted the Macao Handover Ceremony on 20 December 1999. After the demolition of the venue, it became part of the Macao Cultural Centre Square. Since March 2003, in commemoration of Macao’s return to its motherland, which is regarded as a remarkable event in this century, the government began to construct the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao on the same site.
