Mong Ha Eco-Centre, opened since 14 March 1999, is the first eco-centre established by the IAM. To provide the public with a better venue for delivering quality environmental education, the bureau started renovating the greenhouse at Mong Ha Hill in 2009. The new greenhouse is scheduled to officially reopen in June 2010. More spacious than the old one, the new Mong-Ha Eco-Centre provides a better venue for the public and students for touring and learning. The 8.9-metre two-storey centre, providing a total area of 540 square metres for public use, is equipped with a large exhibition room, a multi-purpose room, an interactive game room, a library, a computer room and an audio-visual room. A number of interactive learning models about environmental health and protection are also exhibited, such as interactive education props for environmental health, models of public toilets and refuse rooms, rainwater harvesting system and solar lights. The centre also presents Macao’s municipal health initiatives, such as waste separation and recycling, rodent and mosquito control.
